Ultima, Tweed

We had to stay in another hotel in Tweed, this one called Ultima.  We didn’t get a room this time, but a suite.  From the veranda there were some pretty rad views!

I was digging the contrast between industrial and beachy surroundings.

Look at these people exercising.  Lunatics.

Anyway, so the room itself was pretty spesh too…

And it came with a fully-equipped kitchen that was so nifty, Pat had to cook me dinner.  I photographed him in action because uh, it doesn’t happy very often and I always want to remember it. 😛

It might have been the greatest ravioli I’ve ever eaten!

img_1078

After dinner we went down to the beach, even though it was getting a wee bit stormy.  I love this shot – they sky is so angry it looks like Pat is marching (barefoot) into battle, haha.

I just wanted to point out that Coolangatta boasts one massive beach.  Soooooo much sand.

Day 22

I spent the night in Brisbane.  I pretty much just went to Borders and then had dinner at a pub type thing in Southbank, but it was good.  Books and steak, that’s really all it takes to make me happy.

Here is the front of the Treasury Casino.  It would have been way more interesting if Pat stood in between the giant balls as instructed,  but he didn’t want to be part of my vulgarity.

img_0833

I remember when I was a little kid and they first built these trellises.  It’s cool now that the vines have grown over them, very funky!  I wanted to snap pics of the lagoon, as it was completely packed despite it being about 9.30pm.  But it was full of kids and you know how parents feel about people snapping their kids in speedos…

img_0838

Ch-ch-check out the ferris wheel!  I know that basically every city in the world is trying to do the London Eye thing, but whatever, it’s big and cool.  I was too chicken to go on it, so I basically ran laps around the thing taking photos from all different angles…  Totally normal, yes?

img_0835

Now the other side!

img_0846

Yeah, I’m pretty sure I looked like a massive hillbilly as I marvelled at the ferris wheel.

img_0837

I don’t want to be hating on my state’s capital, but Brisbane is sooooooo much prettier at night.  You can’t see all the beige.

img_0842

img_0844

It was an obscenely hot and muggy night, but being by the river was so refreshing.  We kind of meandered through the parklands, taking in the scenery…

img_0854

I couldn’t help but feel like I was in that completely inaccurate and annoying Brisbane ad.  The one that shows Miranda Kerr swimming with dolphins in the Brisbane River…  I think the use of “Save Tonight” is the only redeeming quality of that ad.

img_0860

I’ve always wondered what happens when tourists show up and realise the Brisbane River contains neither Miranda Kerr nor dolphins.

Day 13

Pat and I took a trip to Uki so he could write a review on the Ecoasis for his paper.  Having driven through Uki and northern NSW before, I was not thrilled at the prospect.

img_0541

As I expected there was a lot of sugar cane.

img_0542

No, really, lots of sugar cane.  So much of it that I became excited when something slightly different, like railroad tracks became visible (that’s what the black object is).

img_0545

I occupied myself by testing the limits of my shutter speed, taking unfocussed and rather boring shots of the sugar cane as we shot down the highway at 110km/h.  Cows, excitement!  Perhaps I should have titled this, “Sugar Cane: A Study.”

img_0559

Just as dusk fell, we arrived at the Ecoasis.  We were staying in the Morning Mist Chalet.

img_0567

The resort is located in lush rainforest surrounds, with stunning views of Mt. Warning.

Our two-storey chalet was simply stunning.

Yes, we had this all to ourselves!

The world’s comfiest couch.

The kitchen!

img_0588

img_0591

The kitchen was seriously well-stocked.

Check out the brekky hamper:

We headed downstairs and found the most amazing bathroom ever.

img_0595

img_0599

In addition to boasting Dorf fixtures and an epic bath tub, it was stocked with MOR bath and body products (making for the bubbliest bubble bath I’ve ever had) and Aveda haircare.

img_0644

The bedroom reminded me of a castle.  The bed itself was so comfy and I had a really good sleep (exciting, I know).

Instead of a mint on the pillow, we got a cute little watermelon soap.

img_0633

Perhaps the piece de resistance for me was the coccoon swing chair – I don’t know why but I’ve always been obsessed with them?

img_0611

It was a great way to enjoy the views of Mt. Warning.

img_0638

Fun with lens flare!

img_0619

I really wish we’d gotten to stay longer than a night.  The resort has a pool and nature walks and yeah… Much fun to be had.  Although I did feel amazingly refreshed after the short stay, it was as though I’d had a complete holiday.  It was great.
